Since 1958, William B. Fosser's Puppet Production OPERA IN FOCUS, one of the most technically sophisticated puppet theatres in the world, has been presenting fully staged Grand Operas, Operettas, and Musicals in MINIATURE using uniquely-articulated 16-inch tall rod puppets (the only ones of their kind in the world!) designed and patented by legendary Master Puppeteer and Motion Picture Set Designer, Bill Fosser. Our productions have single-handedly kept the Chicago Puppet Opera tradition—which began in the 1930s with the great Ernest Wolff before gaining international fame as the "Kungsholm Miniature Grand Opera" in the '40s"—alive for more than half a century. In 1993, the Puppet Opera was installed in its permanent location in Rolling Meadows, Illinois. Since then, performances at our miniature opera house have been attended by thousands of patrons from around the world, and Opera in Focus has been the recipient of a number of prestigious awards including the Dorothy Mullen Award and the President's Award from the Puppeteers of America. Our puppets have been featured on ABC, NBC, CBS, WGN, FOX, PBS, and in the Chicago Tribune, Chicago Sun Times, Daily Herald, and more.
